Emotional cuddles for the mind. Connection without borders.
Accessible therapy for individuals and couples—offered from the comfort of your home by Esther Chen, a BACP-registered therapist providing professional and compassionate care.
About me
My name is Esther Chen, and I am from Taiwan. I earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University in New York, U.S., which laid the solid foundation for my work as a therapist. Prior to that, I also completed a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Philosophy at National Taiwan University, which fostered my sensitivity to questions of meaning, ethics, and human lived experience—an outlook I bring into the therapy room. Life then led me to Europe, where I embarked on a new chapter and continue to grow both personally and professionally.
I’m a UK-registered therapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and currently based in France. I’ve accumulated about 1000 clinical hours working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. These years of practice, combined with my own life journey across continents, have deepened my understanding of the complexities of change, identity, and resilience.
Having experienced multiple transitions and adaptations myself, I know how challenging it can be to navigate new environments and face life’s uncertainties. I see myself not as someone removed from struggle but as someone who walks alongside it—just like you.
In my work, I aim to bring both professionalism and humanity into the room. I believe in the power of genuine connection, and I hope to offer a space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported. I hope to serve those who cross paths with me, not just through theory or technique, but by offering my whole, present self as part of the healing process.
My approach
Finding a therapist while living abroad is not always easy. I deeply understand how disorienting and isolating it can feel to seek support in an unfamiliar environment — especially when language and cultural barriers create invisible walls. That’s why I offer bilingual (Mandarin Chinese and English) teletherapy, allowing you to receive care from the comfort and familiarity of your own space. I am currently based in France and work with clients living in the UK and across Europe.
Over the past two years, I’ve worked on a teletherapy platform supporting clients who study or work abroad—in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.—as well as many intercultural couples navigating life across borders. This experience has deepened my commitment to making online therapy feel just as connected, safe, and meaningful as in-person sessions. I pay close attention to emotional tone, facial expressions, and the relational presence that can be felt even through a screen. My goal is to create a space where you feel free to be yourself—heard, seen, and supported, no matter the distance.
I approach therapy from a non-pathologizing, systemic, and relational perspective, recognizing that we are all shaped by our relationships, cultural influences, and life experiences. I work with you through therapy to explore these dynamics and create meaningful change. I have also completed Level 1 and Level 2 training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), which allows me to guide clients in accessing deeper emotional processes and fostering self-compassion.
I also don’t believe in quick fixes or surface-level advice. True healing is a gradual journey that involves rediscovering your inner strengths and resources. Therapy is a process through which we can create lasting transformation.
To make it easier for you to take the first step, I offer a free 15-minute consultation via Google Meet. This gives you the opportunity to explore whether therapy is the right fit for you without the pressure of commitment. Whether you're unsure or feeling apprehensive about starting therapy, I'm here to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where your full, complex story — including your cultural identity — is welcomed and honored.
